Shoa survivors. (subtitles and voice in English)

In the first half of World War II, in 1941-1942, on a narrow piece of land that stretched between Odessa and Nikolaev and became part of the Romanian Transnistria, long before Bialystok, Treblinka and Warsaw, the first Jewish ghettos in history appeared. Jews and Gypsies, who were driven into the camps of Domanevka and Bogdanovka, which became the last settlements on the "road of death", which originated in Odessa, were foolish to count on salvation. They were systematically destroyed. The gas chambers conveyor has not yet started up. Why, in the pigsties where the Jews were driven, he seemed inappropriate to their executioners. The bullet is cheaper. However, the majority did not even live up to the execution. They were killed by the most severe hunger, beatings and humiliations, which the unfortunate prisoners were subjected to by the Romanians and local policemen. A few managed to withstand, well, in extreme cases, dozens of poor fellows. To some, thanks to the help of local residents, most often, kind-hearted Ukrainian aunts, who saved Jewish families, especially children, risking their own lives. Some of them later received the title of "Righteous Among the World" from Israel, some did not. But it doesn't matter at all. Here is one of these stories and the movie "Shoa survivors."

In the center of the plot is the fate of Semyon Markovich Shtarkman and his wife Nadezhda Gnatyuk. It was he and his sister who saved Semyon and his family from imminent death at the hands of the policemen, who did not tire of beating the boy, demanding from him information that he did not possess. The girls bravely hid the unfortunate Jews in their cellar. Their parents did not mind. They, in spite of everything, remained human.

Many years later. Shtarkman and Nadya Gnatyuk knew nothing about each other. But everyday circumstances miraculously brought them together again. They merried. And it was a symbolic story worthy of a happy serial. But the film, of course, is not limited to a story about the fate of Shtarkman and Gnatyuk. Many other prisoners of Domanevka and Bogdanovka take part in it, who, although they were boys and girls at that cruel time, remember in great detail how they lost relatives and friends; they did not forget how the red water flowed into the Southern Bug along the bottom of the firing ravine, and they still wake up sometimes at night from inexplicable fear. They, these old children who survived the Shoah, consider for themselves extremely necessary, paramount, no matter how difficult the memories of the horrors of the ghetto, tirelessly, year after year, tell humanity about their Holocaust. This, in their opinion, requires justice. The highest morality appeals to this. This is their unpaid debt to those who, alas, do not.
