Elgato Cam Link 4K OBS Setup macOS Latency Input Lag + 444 Test + Teardown
Elgato Cam Link 4K Capture Card Test* - Input Latency / Input Lag and Chroma Subsampling Behaviour**
In this video, I test the input latency of the Cam Link 4k between two computers***. If you are looking for tests with a camera, there are many other good examples of this. I've found that a camera might add about 30 ish ms. It may be a good addition to a Live Streaming or Live Broadcast or IRL Streaming set up.
For comparison, one frame of 30p video lasts for about 33ms. For 60p, this is 16ms. The Cam Link 4K is usable for desktop/console monitoring and capture, but introduces enough latency to cause a feeling of sluggishness. Used with a camera, the delay will be noticeable enough that lip-sync correction may be necessary, but it will be likely fine for the purposes of monitoring.
In order to get the full resolution from the Cam Link 4K in OBS, the "High" preset must be selected. Otherwise, even at high resolutions such as 4K, the output quality will only be about 720p.
At resolutions at or lower than 1080p30, 4:4:4 is available. Otherwise, loss of color resolution will result when used with 60p sources or high resolution sources.

*I am not a scientist, and this is not a scientific test. Both computers appear underpowered for the purposes of streaming but I don't have any other computers to test with. This information may be inaccurate, and is more likely to be inaccurate on other platforms or with other hardware setups. All information is provided as-is, where is, with no guarantees about anything. You should always perform your own test in your particular environment.

**YouTube/Video Compression screwed the test patterns in the video up. You can compare them to RTINGS' official test image online yourself.
***Tested with 2019 13" MacBook Pro with two Thunderbolt ports (i5-8250U;8GB;256GB) as host and 2013 13" MacBook Air (i5-4250U;4GB;256GB) as the signal source.
