Ep. 27 How to Tune the Snare Side Drumhead

The snare side head is quite often the most overlooked aspect of snare drum tuning. There are theories about cranking it up regardless of your preferred sound. There are theories about taping the snares to the head to control extraneous rattle. In these episode, we demonstrate the effect of various snare side tensions and discuss how they affect the performance of the drum.

Stay tuned (pun most definitely intended!) for part two of our snare side drumhead explorations next week as we keep the snare side head cranked up and review the effects as we alter the batter head.
