It’s quite common to tune tom batter and resonant drumheads to different pitches. In the fact, the pitches themselves generally matter less than the interval between the two. Whether you tend to tune the batter higher or lower than the reso, have you ever thought to flip the tuning? This can help provide greater projection, more articulation, or less pronounced overtones depending on which way you go.
