Communist China 'sends a warning shot at Australia'

Australia now faces both short and long term problems with an "aggressive" communist China which has launched "a shot across the bows" at our nation says the Executive Director of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute Peter Jennings.

Mr Jennings told Sky News host Peter Gleeson the recent trade tensions between the two countries can be seen as a "shot across the bows" from China at Australia.

On Wednesday, Foreign Minister Marise Payne played down suggestions Australia is on the brink of a trade war after China suspended imports from four abattoirs.

The decision raised concerns of a trade stoush between the two nations over Australia's push for an independent inquiry into the origins of COVID-19.

The suspension came just days after China announced it would level tariffs on Australian barely produces amid an anti-dumping investigation.

Mr Jennings also said the communist regime has now sent "a warning to Australia not to embarrass China" in an upcoming World Health Assembly meeting.

"The longer term problem is we will constantly come up against these types of challenges of dealing with a much more aggressive one party state in Beijing," Professor Jennings said.
