Living Off the Grid in a Tiny Bath House | Infrastructure for Off Grid Hunting Cabin

Take a tour of our tiny outhouse rainwater harvesting system that we use for taking showers, irrigating garden vegetables, filtered drinking water, and general construction water as we build our off the grid strawbale home. We call it the Bath House!
In this video, I explain my story about camping on the #homestead while building a home. And how critical the bath house was for creating basic infrastructure to live off the grid.

We collect water from the 120 sq ft bath house roof in a recycled IBC tote that holds 300 gallons of rain water. We use that water for showering, watering the garden, and general construction purposes with a hose. The rainwater overflow goes through a biological slow sand filter to clean the water to upwards of 99.7% pure. We drank water generated solely from the bath house roof for 5 years.

We provide all of our necessities from this land. We generate power with the sun and store extra energy in lead acid batteries for night time and cloudy days. We collect and filter all of our domestic water for showers, laundry, dish washing, and even drinking. We use a ShurFlow water pump to deliver water from the storage tanks to a pressurized shower head and hose bib. Composting humanure is the best way to dispose of human waste. We use a 5 gallon bucket with sawdust. When the bucket is full, add to compost pile and wait for the magic to happen. Once the compost pile reaches 130 deg F for 2 weeks, the compost is sterilized and ready for use. #humanure
