Meet the Inimitable Joan Schrouder

In Joan's words-
"About me

In March 2019 I was named a “Humans of Ravelry” and profiled on their blog. which was and still is a huge honor.

A note about sending me PMs for help with knitting problems -

I much prefer answering/discussing solutions to specific knitting/crochet questions in the public forums for these reasons -

Sometimes I’m not on my computer so it’ll take you days to get an answer. So this way others will be giving you good answers and you aren’t left waiting, including if there’s a big time zone difference between us.

Chances are that, if you’re asking the question, others need to know, too, so the information will be public. Threads are eventually archived but still available through searches, so the information posted will always be here, useful for many to come.

Other good answers pop up, some which I’d never thought of, so you’ll get better information and/or more options.

If you’d like me to weigh in, you’re more than welcome to earburn me or send me a PM asking me to join the discussion there; please include a link to the thread you’ve started on your topic.

Thanks -

Raveler #60,465, joining in January 2008.

One of my Ravatar photos is of a double vertical rainbow seen from the air just before we landed in Syracuse, NY a few years ago. I think it perfectly symbolizes standing side-by-side as an ally with the LGBTQA community.

I am a retired RN after working 20 years at our local community blood bank and 13 years elsewhere in Eugene; you see, doc, I have this thing about needles……

I have designed knitting patterns for magazines and yarn companies in the past. You’ll find in my designs that I’ve been heavily influenced by Elizabeth Zimmermann ever since I read her books starting in the early 70s, and then was fortunate enough to attend at least 20 Knitting Camps since 1979, about half of them when she was still teaching.

I answer tech knitting questions on various knitting lists. I’ve also taught knitting workshops around the country between 1989 and 2012 at knitting conventions (Stitches, TKGA, Sock Summit, etc) in addition to many shops and guilds. And then there are the train trips and knitting cruises to exotic places ….. surely I must be dreaming!

I have retired from teaching after a knitting cruise to Scotland and Norway in June 2012 as a grand finale.

My personal tutorial links - (not videos I’ve made, but ones I found useful and might want to use, plus link to for future)
