Always snacking while cooking? Try this!

Do you find it hard to stop snacking while you’re cooking? Trying to lose weight but the allure of a slice of buttery toast or those treats for the “kids” in the pantry too strong? I could end up consuming all my daily calories before I’d even finished making the dinner, let alone eating it.

The habit of snacking can be hard to break, but I found, if at least my mouth was chewing, I’d be less likely to reach for higher calories items. Chopping up some veg BEFORE I started cooking was game changing. A sliced carrot, a cucumber with some salt and pepper, a few cherry tomatoes in half with some salt, or my favourite, a simple red pepper. I’d spend 2 mins getting them ready, weighed and on a plate before making the food. By tracking the calories I’d be more conscious of what I was eating and with vegetables being high volume, low calorie density foods, I was satisfied enough to wait till the meal was ready.

Doing this would help keep sugar cravings at bay (FYI eating sugar when hungry will increase sugar cravings throughout the day) and keep me on track to my goal.
