SETI Live: Groundbreaking Results from the Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration
The European Southern Observatory (ESO) and the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) will present a new Milky Way Result from the EHT on May 12.
The EHT is a network of synchronized radio observatories across Earth. Together, they create an array that can capture much higher resolution imaging than any single dish. In 2019, EHT revealed the first-ever image of a black hole. We know that one of the other primary observing targets is Sagittarius A-star (Sgr A*), the black hole at the center of the Milky Way. but ETH is also capable of imaging interactions between black holes, they growth and evolution.
To discuss this new discovery, we invited Dan Wilkins, research scientist, astronomer and astrophysicist at the Kavli Institute for Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology at Stanford University to react and discuss the announced discovery with SETI Institute senior astronomer Franck Marchis.
What do you think the announcement will be? Aliens, black holes, something else? Let us know in the comments.
