Q). I wanted to know if you could make a lesson covering diatonic Minor Pentatonic Scale use. To me, this is a really cool jazz fusion sound that a lot of the jazz and funk players are using. I know that these diatonic Minor Pentatonic Scales can be applied by fingerboard position. But, I'd like to get a proper explanation of why they work, and also a way that I can start studying them.

A). Performing Diatonic Pentatonic scale ideas is something that can be done in several different styles of music. However, styles like jazz and jazz fusion can really cater to this sound. Especially when we have different chords being performed as a background harmony. For example, if we performed an "A Minor" chord (as a looped jam-track chord), and we played the fifth degree "E Minor" Pentatonic Scale we'd get a really cool effect from performing that scale under that loop. We could get another effect if we kept the "A Minor" chord as our jam-track loop and performed a "B Minor" Pentatonic Scale over the "A Minor" chord. We could even take things a step further and add unique tones to the "A Minor" as extensions. The possibilities are pretty far reaching with this idea and can be a lot of fun to practice composing & improvising with!
