A Majestic Elephant Head Forged from a Single Steel Bar

ELEPHANT. An exercise in forging metals, remembering what i love about the craft of the blacksmith that metal can also be sculpted with tools, hammers, chisels, punches and other blacksmithing tools. Forging animal heads was always a passion of mine. forging animals in general. but ive lost some of that passion these last few years so im rekindling the fire and seeing if i still have that burning desire.
I needed a new curtain rail holder as the other wasnt cutting the mustard so decided to forge one. In the last video of forging a flatter i used the press to push material in a certain direction, this gave me the idea of forging ears or antlers and other head dresses of nature i just needed to figure out a way to get the mass on the end the right shape. i drew it on paper and immediately seen an elephant, looked at the curtain rail and knew i wanted to do exactly that. but how???? i just used the same forging technique to create the ears and the rest was just improvisation.
Its good to be back on the metal sculptures again and its all i want to do at the moment.
I hope you enjoy the video as uch as i enjoyed making it. Have a great day!
Oh yeh! let me know in the comments what animal heads you would like to see made.
