"The gothic sound" is a documentary about the oldest playable organ in the world, the gothic organ of the St. Andreaskirche in Ostönnen. Since it's restoration in 2003 by Rowan West, this organ is regarded as one of the most important historical instruments in the world and is very popular among visitors from all over the world.
In 2015, the organist and filmmaker David Boos and his wife Olga Minkina spent 4 days in Ostönnen to record and film the instrument. The result is a documentary that tackles not only art historic facets, but also details from an organ building perspective, as well as presenting all the stops. This makes "The gothic sound" the most detailed presentation of this special instrument to date.
"The gothic sound" is a project of goodwill, meaning that it was realised without any outside financial support. The goal is to make this organ accessible to an even broader audience and to strengthen the general interest in historical instruments.
