You must buy a vehicle to resell.
Sell vehicle & charge sales tax.
Register vehicle & transfer collected tax to DMV within 30 days of the sale.
Place Temporary License Plate on vehicle sold when no plate is available for transfer.
And that is the DEAL! I hope you are doing deals several times a day, and when you have done a couple of deals, you are going to be very confident with the deal process, and I hope you are conducting deals ALL THE TIME.

Electronic Lien and Titles

Next, I want to talk about the California Electronic Lien and Title Program that has been developed by the DMV. It allows lienholders to apply for Electronic Titles instead of Paper Titles, reducing mailing and storage costs. Lienholders in ELT no longer need to:

Retrieve Title when Lien has been satisfied.
Physically satisfy (sign off) a lien on Title.
Mail a Title to a registered owner or new lienholder.
Apply for duplicate Title to replace a lost Title.
Handled by dealer management software. And by the way, a lien is placed on any vehicle that has a loan, and we will cover financing extensively before the course is complete. Anytime financing is involved in a motor vehicle transaction, a lien must be placed on the vehicle, and the State of California has implemented the Electronic Lien and Title program.

Next, I want to cover a VERY important part of your dealer training course, which is the LEGAL use of your dealer license plates.

Here you see a California dealer license plate or what we sometimes refer to as D TAGS. Most dealers choose to obtain dealer plates. You are not required to obtain dealer plates, but if you are allowing a test drive, you will definitely want dealer plates. When I show you how to legally use your dealer plates, you will realize a lot of dealers are using their D tags illegally, so I want to show you how to use them LEGALLY.

Legal use of a dealer plate:
