Bird Photography in my Floating Blind. Freezing temps, sitting in a river. Am I dedicated or CRAZY?

Bird Photography and Wildlife Photography in general can be extremely challenging. What is the best way to photograph birds and other wildlife? For me, it usually means using some sort of camouflage or blind (hide). This week, I made it back out in my DIY Floating Blind (Floating Hide). Using a Floating Blind is in my opinion, the best way to photograph birds, specifically waterfowl and shorebirds. As I made it out in the blind this week, I was quickly reminded of how cold one can get while sitting nearly chest deep in a river in sub-freezing temperatures. There were times where I really had to consider if what I was doing was completely sane, or just pure absurdity.

Well, I survived the experience and came away with some photos that I'm very happy with, though, I'm still questioning the state of my sanity :)

I'd like to hear your thoughts. Would you say the experience was worth it? Is this something you would do for a potentially amazing image? What is something crazy you've done to get an image or two (ethical experiences only please)?

If you like the idea of using a DIY Floating Blind for Bird Photography, check out these other videos I done in mine. In these vides I cover many questions you probably have about these types of blinds. I hope you enjoy, if you have any questions, please let me know!
