Will Lake Mead ever fill up again? That question about the water level of Lake Mead is on the minds of a lot of people who live in Southern Nevada. You can see at Hoover Dam that the water level is less than half full from it's highest point. Part of the reason is because Nevada is just one of 7 states that pull water from the Colorado River Basin. California has senior water rights, which means that states like Nevada and Arizona would have to cut water usage first in case an emergency was announced due to a shortage. This would also affect the states of Utah, New Mexico, Wyoming and Colorado. This is concerning to many Las Vegas residents because 90% of their daily use water comes from Lake Mead. Although a lot of conservation efforts have been made to cut back on water use and recycle water, Clark County is still growing in population, which may mean that another solution for more water needs to be discovered sooner than later.
