Uncovering the Mystery of Cosmic Rays #spaceweather
#science #space #solar #solarflares #spaceweather
In outer space, the weather is unpredictable, high-energy particles bombard earth and objects in our orbit with radiation that can endanger the lives of astronauts and destroy electronic equipment. These cosmic rays are strong enough to reach passengers in airplanes flying over the north pole. The World Health Organization has said ionizing radiation causes cancer and reproductive problems in humans. Scientists have believed that the sun’s plasma generates these high-energy particles, but these particles move so erratically and unpredictably that until now, a clear understanding of their origins has remained elusive.
