Do Yoga, Run Faster | Ann Mazur | TEDxUVA

Most elite runners spend hours on grueling training runs, with hundreds of miles under the belts before race day. Ann Mazur, an elite runner with a surprisingly low mileage, seeks to challenge these training methods through the addition of thoughtful yoga practice. In her talk, which includes demonstrations of useful poses, Mazur asserts that doing yoga can lead to significant athletic benefits for runners, too.

Ann Mazur is currently the Shannon Postdoctoral Fellow in the English Department at the University of Virginia. She received her Ph.D. in English literature from the University of Virginia in 2014, and taught 579 yoga classes while earning her degree. Ann is also an elite runner, who runs unconventionally low mileage and attributes much of her success to her yoga practice. In graduate school, she founded her company Runners Love Yoga with the mission of bringing more yoga to the running community, so that they too can "do yoga, run faster."

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
