Michael D. Langone, PhD, received a doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1979. From 1981 to 2022 he served as Executive Director of International Cultic Studies Association (ICSA), a tax-exempt research and educational organization concerned about psychological manipulation and cultic groups. Dr. Langone has been consulted by several hundred former cult members and/or their families. He was the founder editor of Cultic Studies Journal (CSJ), the editor of CSJ’s successor, Cultic Studies Review, and editor of Recovery from Cults: Help for Victims of Psychological and Spiritual Abuse (an alternate of the Behavioral Science Book Service). He is co-author of Cults: What Parents Should Know and Satanism and Occult-Related Violence: What You Should Know. In 1995, he was honored as the Albert V. Danielsen Visiting Scholar at Boston University. He has authored numerous articles in professional journals and books and has spoken widely to dozens of lay and professional groups, including the MacNeil/Lehrer News Hour and ABC 20/20. He is also co-editor of ICSA's Cult Recovery: A Clinician's Guide to Working With Former Members and Families, published in 2017.

Rev. Dr. Neil Damgaard, ThM, DMin, is originally from the Washington, DC area. A
graduate of Virginia Tech (BS in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research), he worked
for the US Navy under contract as a management engineering consultant. He entered the
ministry in 1976 and later graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary with a 4-year master’s
degree in historical theology. He served on staff at churches in Virginia and Texas, and then as
Senior Pastor of the Dartmouth Bible Church in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts from 1983
until 2019. He also served as Protestant Chaplain with the Center for Religious and Spiritual Life
at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, 2007–2019. He earned his Doctor of Ministry
degree in 2008 from Dallas Theological Seminary. He has authored two books, A History of
Dartmouth Bible Church, 1963–2013 (2013, Westbow Press) and Defiance at Cairo (2020, Book
Baby). Editor of Wounded Faith. Now retired, he lives in Roanoke, Virginia and has been married
to Renée (a retired teacher) since 1975. Together they have raised two daughters.

Heidi I Knapp, CLC. Life Recovery Coach specializing in spiritual and relational abuse issues.
Heidi has completed University courses in both theology and psychology in addition, completed
counselling studies in addictions CAC ll. She has spent 25 years in personal study and education on recovery related issues which include her formal art education. In addition to coaching clients Heidi co-directs Becoming Free LLC, alongside her husband Pat, with whom she co-facilitates support and recovery groups for those who have experienced spiritual abuse. Heidi places a high value on the importance of creativity as a supportive part of the healing process. She contributes to the educational development of writing curriculum for Becoming Free support and recovery groups and has had personal experience with aberrant forms of Christianity. She is a member of the International Cultic Studies Association (ICSA) and the American Association on Christian Counsellors (AACC). Additionally, Heidi has previously coordinated and led support groups for parents raising special needs children. Pastor Ken lives in Portland, OR, where he is pastor of Grace Church, Portland, a 148-year old downtown church. Ken and his family survived a discipleship-oriented spiritually abusive church, where they lived semi-communally for 12 years (1984-1996). After leaving the cult Ken completed seminary training (MDiv) and transitioned from a paramedic career to the pastorate. In 2017 Ken earned a Doctor of Ministry degree with a study focus on the recognition and recovery from spiritual abuse in fundamentalist-evangelical Christian churches. Ken is the founder of the Spiritual Abuse Forum for Education (SAFE), an organization that assists survivors of spiritual abuse from all backgrounds and religions. SAFE sponsors informal meetups in Portland to facilitate both education regarding spiritual abuse and healthy community and friendship with survivors. Ken and Sharon have three daughters and five grandchildren.
