The Rise and Fall of The Lobotomy
A lobotomy was a surgical procedure that involved destroying part of the frontal lobe of the brain. It was invented by a Portugese neurologist called Egaz Moniz in 1935 and would quickly become of one of the most popular treatments for severe mental illness around the world.
Despite winning Moniz a Nobel Prize in Medicine the lobotomy is looked down upon today mainly due to the devestating side effects that it caused.
