Being able to make your own wood knife scales without a bandsaw mill makes knifemaking pretty cheap and exciting, since you can use hardwood found for free that can hide beautiful grain, instead of using always the same hardwood as everyone. I love also to use wood that grows locally, giving my knives more character.
