Nepal - Better Days

As you will know, Nepal got hit by a major earthquake in April 2015. In this tragic event, thousands of people lost their lives, and hundreds of thousands of Nepalis got affected.

Many homes collapsed during the quake, trapping people who were caught in the disaster that happened in only a few moments. Villages near the epicenter were hit hard, but places in the Kathmandu Valley as well. In fact, the earthquake could be felt in neighboring countries like India, Bangladesh, and China, and claimed lives there too.

In January of this year, I was fortunate enough to visit some of the beautiful historic and cultural places in Nepal, especially in the Kathmandu Valley. Many of the buildings are Unesco World Heritage sites. Many of these buildings also collapsed or got severely destroyed.

Places like the Boudhanath stupa for its Buddhist culture, or the Pashupatinath temple complex for its importance in Hinduism, are landmarks in Kathmandu.

This little clip shows some of these buildings, the streets, and people months before the earthquake happened. These were, so to speak, better days for Nepal. I hope this clip can somehow serve as a modest tribute to all those who are affected by the quake.
