The Supermarine Spitfire W3760 was a unique floatplane variant of the iconic British fighter, developed during World War II to explore the feasibility of deploying Spitfires from water in regions lacking airfields.
Converted from a Mk Vb airframe, W3760 was fitted with 25-foot-long custom-designed floats by Arthur Shirvall, renowned for his work on Supermarine's Schneider Trophy racers. It was powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin 45 engine driving a four-bladed propeller, and featured modifications such as an extended fin and a ventral stabilizing fin to enhance stability on water.
