American Bandstand 1967 – Him Or Me-What’s It Gonna Be?, Paul Revere & The Raiders
“Him Or Me…” would be Paul Revere & The Raiders‘ (Where The Action Is, Happening ’68, It’s Happening) biggest hit of 1967 peaking at #5 and is #9 this week. This song would be their last top 10 hit until 1971 when “Indian Reservation (The Lament of the Cherokee Reservation Indian)” went to #1.
Dancers: For those really paying attention, if the dancers here look suspiciously like they are the exact same kids dancing to “Creeque Alley” (6/10/67) and “Somebody To Love” (5/27/67) it is because these shows were (most likely) filmed on the same day. According to AB regular Don Sanuskar, it was not uncommon to tape up to 4 episodes at a time, back to back, with each episode taking up to 2 hours to complete. Between episodes, the kids would quickly change clothes and try to find something to eat and drink as nothing was supplied by the show. Sometimes people will comment about the kids not constantly smiling or bouncing around the studio dancing to every song. After filming for 8 hours a day, my enthusiasm might have waned just a little bit too, lol.
The AB regulars spotted in this clip (dancing with great enthusiasm!) are: 0:03 Mike Langham, 0:39 Don Sanuskar, Frank Vanderpuil (bottom of the screen), 0:59 Lori Montgomery, 1:09 Frank Herrera (far left) 1:23 Jim Miranda with Debbie Kane in back,1:44 Theodosia Dayton, 2:10 Rick McNay (light colored jacket) and John Pollard on the riser.
…..And today railroad heiress and fashion designer Gloria Vanderbilt gave birth to CNN host and 60 minutes correspondent Anderson Cooper. Anderson was a model in his early teen years for Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein and briefly interned for the CIA before deciding to pursue a career in journalism.
