Walk in Paris from Concorde to Opera and Palais-Royal

In this walk we are going to walk from Concorde to Palais-Royal passing by the Madelaine church, walking through Rue St Honore , stopping by Opera Garnier and visiting Rue St Anne - a street with some best Asian (especially Japanese and Korean!) restaurants in Paris.

Let's go!

00:00 Welcome back! Today we will be walking through the most central districts (or "arrondissement") of Paris.
00:05 We are starting  on the border between 1st and 8th  arrondissements- on Place de la Concorde.
00:10 This square had huge significance during the French revolution, as it was here that Louis 16 and a large part of the royal family were executed with a guillotine.
00:15 By the way, in one of our previous videos, we showed our walk around Saintes.
00:20 Saintes was a birthplace of Joseph-Ignace Guillotin, who proposed to use the guillotine to execute people.
01:20 What is remarkable about the 1st arrondissement is that it is the least populous and yet probably the most visited area of Paris.
01:25 It's here that you will find some of the most important landmarks of Paris, including Louvre and Tuileries garden (which we showed in our previous video).
01:35 But today we will show you some parts of this district that are probably a bit less visited.
01:40 This is Rue de Rivoli- an early example of modern planning introduced by Napoleon in Paris.
01:50 These arcades were basically a compromise between the desire to keep Paris beautiful, while allowing its commerce to function.
02:20 Rue Cambon. It was here that the successful career of a famous fashion designer Coco Chanel started.
02:58 French National Administrative court. Another example of Napoleonic architectural influences.
03:22  Church Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption- the main Polish church of Paris. Let's go inside!
04:00 What a beautiful dome!
04:20 7 deadly sins in Polish
04:36 We are now on Rue Saint-Honoré. It's actually one of the oldest streets of Paris, laid out in the Middle Ages.
04:40 Many upscale stores, expensive properties and foreign embassies are on this street.
04:50 Interesting door leading inside the French National Administrative court we previously mentioned.
05:08 If you continue walking, you will soon reach  the Élysée Palace -the residence of the President of France.
05:18 But we are now turning right, towards Madeleine church, which is actually in the 8th arrondissement.
07:40 Like in all functioning churches in France, the entrance is free!
08:00 It looks and feels like a Roman temple, and that was the whole point why it was built: to glorify the successes of Napoleon's Imperial army.
09:12 Madeleine is a final resting place of the composer Frederic Chopin.
09:30 We all know that Orsay was converted from the train station into a famous art museum.
09: 35 But did you know that at some point in the 19th century, there were plans to use Madeleine church as a railway station?
09:40 Luckily, this did not happen.
11:35 Good use of space to showcase art🙂
11:55 Place de la Madeleine
12:00 Rue Tronchet- commercial street linking Madeleine with the Grands Boulevards of Paris
12:20 Printemps Haussmann- a famous large shopping centre of Paris- currently closed.
12:30 On top, there is a free observation deck, from which you can see some nice views of Paris
12:40 We are now on Rue Auber, walking towards the Palais Garnier- the opera house of Paris.
15:30 What is a bit confusing is that the "Opera house" is now mainly used for ballet, not opera.
15:30 In fact, Palais Garnier was the main opera house until 1989, when the new Opera was opened in the Bastille district of Paris
15:40 And now, Palais Garnier is mainly used for ballet.
16:40 The fans will of course know that Phantom of the Opera events took place here. So, for the lovers of musicals, it's a bit like Notre Dame, which is associated with the musical of the same name.
18:45 A nice looking shopping passage on a side street.
19:15 We are now entering an Asian quarter of Paris.
19:20 There are several more- but this one is the oldest.
19:30 We like Asian food a lot, especially from Japan and Korea, and come to this area from time to time for purchases.
22:05 Arcades of Palais Royal.
23:15 As the name suggests, it is indeed a former Royal Palace, but now houses various administrative offices of the French state.
23:25 Interestingly, it was originally built for Cardinal Richelieu, and was then called Palais-Cardinal.
24:50 Palais Royal is a really nice place to relax (although it was unusually busy on the day of the walk).
28:30 Thank you for watching our video, and please remember to subscribe :)
