Walk from Ile de la Cite to Jardin du Luxembourg via Notre Dame and Quartier Latin

This weekend we decided to walk from Ile de la Cite to Jardin de Luxembourg via Notre Dame and Quartier Latin, stopping by one of our favorite bookshops in Paris - Shakespeare and Company, Sorbonne and Pantheon. And yes, visited Agatha (Aggie) the cat in the bookshop!

Let's walk with us!
0:02 Welcome back! We are starting our walk from Pont d'Arcole bridge.
0:05 It was built in 19th century, and has been an important link connecting right bank with île de la Cité.
0:17 Notre Dame bridge, with Conciengerie in the background.
0:30 we are entering Ile de la Cite.
0:33 Ile de la Cite is the oldest part of Paris.
0:35 It is here that a small Gallic tribe of Parisii established a fortified area to fight off Roman invaders about 2000 years ago, which eventually led to the foundation of Paris
0:45 Notre Dame Cathedral
1:15 the post-fire restoration works will take some time to complete
1:27: we are now on the left bank (Rive Gauche)
1:45 Shakespeare bookstore: probably the best best place to find English-speaking books in Paris
1:50 On this same place, there used to be a monastery in 16th century!
2:18 Let's go inside!
2:50 The bookstores in France have been struggling a lot during the recent year, and would really welcome buyers now
3:06: Surprise: a famous resident cat!
3:46: Her name is Agatha (or Aggie), and she apparently enjoys eating various plants, among other things :)
4:41 what a nice cozy place!
5:12 A wishing wall.
5:39 Back on the street, going into a nearby small park.
6:30 Some  part of of Paris in this area survived Hausmann transformations, and look older than elsewhere
7:33 Church of Saint-Julien-le-Pauvre- a Greek Catholic church
9:40 Going into  Latin Quarter, towards Sorbonne
9:55 Saint-Séverin church: on of the oldest in Paris, as it was built in 13-14 centuries
11:00 Huge building on the right is part of the famous Sorbonne university- one of the oldest in the world
12:05 Looking into Pantheon-Sorbonne University building
12:23: going toward famous Pantheon: unfortunately currently closed
12:40 It started to be built before the French revolution, as a purely religious building
12:50 When completed in 1791, the revolution was in full swing, and a decision was made to change the purpose of the building
12:58 The building became a final resting place for the remains of famous French citizens
13:05. For the science-minded people, there is also  Foucault pendulum inside!
15:05 Saint-Étienne-du-Mont church. A radical revolutionary Marat is buried here.
17:23 Let's enjoy a few moments at Jardin du Luxembourg- one of several royals parks of Paris.
17:30 it was built in 17th century, in a formal French style
18:14 The Garden surrounds the Luxembourg palace- a residence for Marie de' Medici, a Queen of France
