An investigation is underway to determine cause of the deadly crash that left three dead and 12 injured in Sanxia. New Taipei’s Department of Transportation sent a team to investigate the site of the tragedy on Tuesday morning. Officials were also dispatched to inspect the vehicle, which is currently held at a site in Shulin.

A social media user has revealed security camera footage from the moments before the deadly crash. The video shows how the 78-yer-old driver, surnamed Yu, had been fleeing from a minor traffic accident that occurred just a minute before. While trying to turn left at an intersection, he scraped the divider on the road. He seems to have panicked, and reversed hitting the vehicle behind him, pushing it back. He then rushed away, making a sharp left turn, presumably to flee the scene.
