Pachibaba

Pachibaba is the explosive encounter of three musical heavyweights. The first is Olivier Araste, driving force behind the group 'LiNDiGo' from Réunion (who appeared at AF Hertme in 2015). He works fervently for the preservation of the Maloya style, a symbol of Réunion's Creole culture, the style of the African slaves who were forcibly deployed to work the sugar plantations. The second is the accordionist Fixi, the regular keyboard player in the afrobeat drummer Tony Allen group for years. He founded the French rap group 'Java' and played with the Jamaican singer McAnuff. For Fixi, the Maloya from LiNDiGo is a great source of inspiration. The third is the idiosyncratic percussionist and composer Cyril Atef. Born in Germany, with a father from Iran, he studied percussion in LA and Boston. He founded the electro-afro-groove group CongopunQ, and formed with cellist Vincent Segal the successful duo 'Bumcello' (releasing seven albums!).

The trio above are the driving force of this contemporary 'Global Maloya' of Pachibaba and will, together with three members of LiNDiGo, turn Hertme upside down on Saturday night.
