Major fires spark evacuations in Queensland
The bushfire emergency in Queensland has turned deadly as police investigate the discovery of a body in the Western Downs Region.
Residents in towns such as Tara, Wieambilla, and Kogan have been warned to evacuate now before it becomes too dangerous to leave.
QFES state commander of operations Peter Hollier told Sky News Australia that unusually warm conditions and dry windy weather are behind the intense fires and warned the worst is not over yet.
“We are still going to see some challenging times even if we do have some respite in the weather, that will be short-lived,” he said.
“The wind has certainly been the major factor that have been driving these fires, and ... the intensity is quite extreme.”
