"My piece for solo viola has a mysterious title 'QUANDO,' which means 'when' in Latin. I'm sure each of us has asked this question, especially now when there is war in our country. We all ask, 'When will it all end, when will things be as they were before, but it will never be as before...' - these words are the epigraph to my piece. The piece also features various themes: a theme of a person questioning, a theme of uncertainty, and one of the most important themes, in my opinion, the theme of the echo of the people, which tries to push the individual towards an answer. The folk theme will sound deliberately; I use folk elements in almost every piece because I believe it is very important to revive our musical roots right now. Thus, I really hope that my work will resonate in your hearts and thoughts and, perhaps, you will find the answer to the question 'QUANDO' - when?" - Composer Anna Hurina.
"Regarding interesting features of the piece, special techniques are used to reflect the intonation of questioning, and there is a modified Ukrainian folk song based on the ethnographic work of Klyment Kvitka and the phonographic recordings of Filaret Kolessa."

About the Project
Music by young Lviv composers, written during the full-scale war, sounds like the voice of youth who live and reflect, dream, fight, and continue to create.
The concert of student composers is a continuation of the "Music of Young Composers" project, which started in 2020 at the Lviv Organ Hall. As part of the strategy to promote Ukrainian classical music, Ukrainian Live, in collaboration with the Mykola Lysenko Lviv National Music Academy and the Lviv Organ Hall, the project introduces young artists and presents their work.
This is music on the edge of time. A reflection of the present and a temporary escape into a parallel reality, it is a chronicle of the war intertwined with memories from peaceful life and dreams of victory.
