Beirut explosion: How Canadians can help on-the-ground humanitarian efforts
The Government of Canada is appealing for Canadians’ help in raising funds for the victims of the Aug. 4 explosion in Beirut, Lebanon.
Canada is providing up to $30 million in humanitarian assistance, including food, water and sanitation, shelter as well as medical aid as Beirut plunges deeper into a healthcare and food crisis.
Around 180 people were killed and more than 6,000 were wounded. A quarter of a million people have been left with homes unfit to live in.
The blast also badly damaged two hospitals playing key roles in handling COVID-19 cases, leaving remaining health-care facilities overwhelmed.
