Mahanadi: The Tale of a River
Anita Agnihotri and Arunava Sinha in conversation
Presented by Dainik Bhaskar
Rivers have always been central to civilization. Award-winning Bangla author Anita Agnihotri’s acclaimed work, Mahanadi: The Tale of a River, recently published in English translation, chronicles the stories of people who live by the banks of the mighty river that flows into the Bay of Bengal. An amalgamation of dynamic myths, legends, and archaeological anecdotes, Mahanadi is a story about people connected across time and space through a vast body of flowing water. Agnihotri, who has been a dedicated civil servant, writes compassionately about the lives of the marginalized and takes the reader on a deep dive into the realities of the Indian landscape. She speaks with Arunava Sinha, celebrated translator and academic, about her body of work and Mahanadi in particular, as they discuss the treasury of Bangla literature the subcontinent has to offer.
Anita Agnihotri- writes in Bengali. She has authored over forty books across all genres of creative writing spanning poetry, short stories, essays, novels, and writing for children. Agnihotri has been translated into many Indian languages, including English and also in German, and Swedish. She has received several literary awards, including the Crossword Economist Award for her collection of short stories, Seventeen.
