Why are Aspherical Lenses Important?

In today's episode of Ask David I address why aspherical lenses are important, namely their ability to help correct lens issues related to field curvature. When aspherical lenses arrived, they made an immediate and significant difference in image quality. Like the move from film to digital, single-element lenses to achromats and complex lenses, and improved film technologies, aspherical lenses rank as one of the most important innovations in photography.
