Glass Skywalk, China

You saw this one in one of my lists about bridges. Not only is it a rare bridge, but it’s also a rare tourist attraction. And you can find it inside the Zhangjiajie National Park in China.

If you think this setting looks familiar, it might be because it served as an inspiration for the landscapes in the 2009 sci-fi movie "Avatar". This forest is home to Tianmen Mountain, and it's in this mountain that you can find the largest glass bottomed bridge in the world. The glass is thick enough to hold your weight, along with the weight of all the visitors that come on a daily basis. It will take you about 600 steps to make it to the other side, but I'm sure it'll feel longer! Especially if your brain starts playing tricks and maybe even produces some anxiety as you begin to realize that you're walking on a bridge that hangs 300 meters above the ground.

It might look scary, but this long glass bottomed skywalk has been very popular among visitors. In fact, when it first opened to the public in 2016, the bridge had to be closed because the amount of visitors was 10 times more than what the authorities were expecting. Now there are more regulations in place so people can stay safe and enjoy this thrilling skywalk.

Inveraray Jail, Scotland
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3AHP6RU50I)

Inveraray was a very important county town for a long time. Back in the 19th century, this place was home to the county's jail, where they would hold men, women and even children! Being a county jail, it only had 12 individual cells and the place finally shut down operations in the year of 1889 when these small jails were hard to sustain. This location is now a tourist attraction. After almost 100 years since its closing, the place opened to the public in 1989. You can walk into the building and get a glimpse of what it was like to be a prisoner in those days. There are warders who will lock you in and you will have the chance to try out the uncomfortable wooden beds and the hammocks where the prisoners slept. You get to do all of this while learning about the history of such a unique place. They say there were thousands of prisoners during the time the jail was active, and only 12 of them managed to escape. During your visit, you will get to see how hard it was to escape from this place and also how useless it was, giving the fact that the town is quite remote.

Bubblegum Alley, USA
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRHojR3murE)

They say there is no place like California! If you're a tourist, it has so many attractions that you can't miss such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Hollywood's walk of fame, the Santa Monica Pier, some of the best zoos and also...the Bubblegum alley. That's right; California is so big and random that it even has a bubblegum alley as one of its outstanding landmarks. You can find this attraction on Higuera Street in the downtown area of San Luis Obispo. And what exactly is this place about? It's simply that: a long alley filled with bubblegum left by people who walk by it. What's interesting about this alley is that no one seems to agree on how exactly the place turned into what it is today. Some say it started after World War II when as a tradition for the San Luis Obispo High School graduating class. But others believe it was some sort of rivalry between different schools in the 50s.
