Ep. 33: Fur, Feathers, Fawns, and Cornbread! May-June 2020

This is an exciting time of year waiting for all the moms to bring up their new fawns and show them off to me. Most have brought them into the yard, but I am still waiting on Birdie to bring hers up. I still don't know if she had one, or two, or maybe even triplets! We are in the middle of a heat wave, and the flies, gnats, and mosquitoes have been relentless on the deer. They get bit a lot, and some let me smash the flies off their foreheads and noses to give them a little break for a few minutes. Casper is becoming the yard supervisor, and likes to be out when any of the furry or feathery ones come up for a snack.

These are all very wild deer who have come to trust me as some nice animal to them. They run if anyone else comes walking down the road, or tires to come into my yard. It lets me know they won't walk up to just anybody, especially a hunter. I am very careful with feeding my deer friends and give them snacks only. After sharing a few minutes each day with me, they spend their days searching out their own food sources in the wild.
