How to make a voltage doubler, also for a HV tube (or oscilloscope) circuit
A video about: how to double a voltage (AC input 12 V - DC output 24 Volt, given a certain resistive load (!)). Correction: somewhere I say that a HV diode can handle 10 A but this (of course) must be 10 mA (!!) The video shows practical applications and the typical issues/problems from the 2 diode/2 capacitor voltage doubling circuit. In real HV situations (scope tube, TV tube) on high frequencies say 16 KHz up to 30 KHz or more special HV diodes are necessary, their internal resistance is very high, this means that they don't damp/muffle the HV coil. On low voltages (say 6 V - 100 V) high value electrolytics (1000 uF or higher) give the best results when you want to take a substantial output current out of the voltage doubler, say 200 mA up to 1 Ampere). Please note that the output voltages from this circuit can/could be lethal, when the input AC voltage is higher than 30 Volt (90 Volt DC out unloaded). Be careful, do not touch HV leads, never touch high voltage electrolytics, everything above 80 V DC is potentially dangerous. More electronics in my books on the Lulu website, author Ko Tilman.
