Year 4: Maths: Decimals: What is a decimal?
In this tutorial, I will show you how to recognise decimals and understand that decimals are all about tens of things and tenths of things. You will also learn that the decimal point separates the whole numbers from the decimal fractions.
A top tip to remember when working with decimals is that the decimal point separates the whole number from the decimal fractions. Encourage your child to look at any whole numbers first and then move on to the numbers after the decimal point. Remind them that tenths are greater than hundredths e.g 1/10 (0.1) is bigger than 1/100 (0.01).
