Lauren's parents see tribute to Lauren Hill for the firs

LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. (Brad Johansen) -- Tuesday night, Sept. 15, people are invited to the unveiling of the new Lawrenceburg High School gym. The entrance will be a tribute to maybe its most inspirational graduate, Lauren Hill. Everytime athletes and students come in the gym they will remember to never give up. They will remember to fight every time and remember how Lauren Hill fought so hard. The gym, the weight room; it was a view Lauren Hill was trying to hang on for. Shortly after Lauren passed in April 2015 from brain cancer, Mary Helen Crook and a couple of her employees at The Framery went to work on a trophy case that would never be forgotten. Crook said, This is a little more special and more sentimental than anything we've done before so that puts a little more pressure. And then to try to fit everything in a certain space, but it's fittin'. Difficult but it's an honor. Lauren's mom went through what she called the treasure trove in the basement picking out things she said would be at home at Lawrenceburg High and let Crook do the rest. Lisa brought with her the final pieces; one of Lauren's high school jersey's and the ESPY for Most Memorable Moment in Sports 2014. Brent Hill, Lauren's dad, said, I knew it would get to me when I saw it because it's usually video. Hearing her voice, but man that got me. The hope was that the trophy case told the story of a girl most people didn't even know one year ago. But in six short months graced the cover of a Wheaties box, an NBA Live video game and earned a doctorate in courage. Everyone can enjoy and remember what she stood for, what she accomplished and take little bits and pieces and make their morals and their values a little stronger from her. People can see the new Lawrenceburg High School gym and the tributes to Lauren at Tuesday's open house. Its from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 15.
