WD-40 on Alloy Wheels?

Using WD-40 on a separate job, I read on the back of the can that it can be used for alloy wheels. I discovered it seems to be more of a cleaning solution than a sealant, but the WD-40 left on the surface did make it easier to clean the brake dust and road grime off the wheels the next time.
