Ok, so another one of my favorite childhood companies today as we look at the world's largest video game publisher, Activision Blizzard.

Maybe it was Guitar Hero?
Or World of Warcraft?
Even my mum plays Candy Crush on her ipad.

Threats.
I don’t see big threats for Activision Blizzard. Of course, the competition is strong in the industry, Some of the big giant tech companies have parts of their business in the gaming world.

like Tencent and Google and the pure gaming companies like Electronic Arts and Take Two interactive are all competing.
But I think there is a place for all of them as the industry is growing fast and Activision Blizzard already has decades of experience.
So I think the moat around their business is high because to compete against the quality of games that Activision Blizzard produces requires 100’s of high quality experienced game developers and that’s hard to find. But they are not without their competitors, it's far from a monopoly.

Candy Crush
Although from a purely financial standpoint, the business model of Candy Crush is brilliant. But I do have an issue with Candy Crash. That Freemium model reminds me of slot machines…

ESports
Call of Duty and Starcraft have been big drivers in the Esports revolution.
Esports is growing rapidly and Activision Blizzard are right in the middle of this revolution. If we are looking for an investing thesis, we don’t have to look much further than this.
Call of Duty is the best selling game in the world right now and the 7th most popular game of all time. And with a new version to be released in early November, that seems like a positive catalyst.

Ok, now I bet no one ever played the obscure game called, Earthworm Jim for PC.
I loved this game as a child, it was super random, but I still remember the Activision branding on the title screen. If anyone out there is familiar with this game, please let me know in the comments!

(ATVI buy price = $50)
Now like I said, I’m not buying them today or anytime soon. They go onto my watchlist of a great company. But I will wait for a price that I want to pay. I might never see this price and that is totally ok.
I think the future is bright for the company, they are in a growing industry and they have good financials.
I don’t like Candy Crush, but that is an emotional/moral issue for me. But I think for most people it is a great investment at $50. Fortunately I don’t think I have to worry about it, as I doubt we will see a price like this anyway.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this investment as I think a lot of people will think ATVI is a great investment and I am being far too conservative.
