The relations between the world’s oldest democracy - the U.S.A. and the world's most populated democracy - India has come a long way.
It has strengthened substantially in the last decade or so.

The two countries have signed multiple defense deals like LEMOA (Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement ) allows them to use each other's land, air, and naval bases for repair and resupply, and COMCASA, or Communications, Compatibility, and Security Agreement, which enables interoperation between U.S. and Indian military. 

India has bought multiple American platforms like P-8 Poseidon, AH-64 Apache, M777 howitzer.
While the relationship has gone from strength to strength, India has not moved into the U.S. camp even though both are very much concerned by China’s military expansion.
