Missile interception, is like hitting a bullet with a bullet.
It is well known that it is one of the most difficult maneuver to pull off.

For example, though Russian Navy’s Black Sea flagship Moskva had 3 triple-layered air defense system consisting of 8 × 8 (64) S-300F missiles for long-range air defense, 2 × 20 (40) OSA-MA for short-range air defense, and 6 × AK-630 close-in weapons systems but was unable to stop the two incoming Neptune Anti-Ship Missiles.
Neptune is a subsonic cruise missile , but still, it couldn’t be intercepted.

Experts have always wondered, if US tech would actually be effective given the complications.
Tests by Japan which uses American technology in this aspect of warfare, has provided some insights.

Japan successfully carried out intercepts near Hawaii using missiles launched from its destroyers, testing the ships’ defense capabilities in the process.
