Douglas Murray: Free speech laws are like badly drawn borders in the Balkans

Author and columnist Douglas Murray has welcomed a move by Cambridge University to change to its free speech policy.

Staff and students are now only required to be ‘tolerant’ of differing views rather than ‘respectful’.

Speaking with talkRADIO'S Julia Hartley-Brewer, the journalist said it was a "small but significant step".

"Everything to do with free speech laws are like badly drawn borders in the Balkans...[which] leave decent, respectable, mainstream opinion behind enemy lines.

"This is what the academics at Cambridge realised."
