A DOZEN (YES: 12!) GREAT THINGS TO DO AROUND HEROES' SQUARE IN BUDAPEST - True Guide Budapest
You are sure to visit Heroes' square (we call it "Hősök tere") since it is a major touristic attraction, one of the city's main landmarks. In this video I show you exactly a dozen great things that you can explore around Heroes' square.
#1: Heroes' square - constructed for the millennial celebrations of the foundation of the Hungarian state in 1896.
#2: Museum of Fine Arts - recently reopened after a major overhaul and expansion
#3: Palace of Art - reminiscent of a Greek temple (great museum shop and nice café)
#4: Gundel restaurant - join pasts guests that include royalty and presidents, very expensive, but has reasonable prices Sunday brunch and weekday lunch offers
#5: Robinson restaurant - uniquely in Europe it is built on a small island in the lake
#6: Municipal Zoological and Botanical Garden - fun for the whole family! new complex indoor enclosure (called: biodome) set to open in next couple of years
#7: Grand circus - originally opened in 1889, relocated several times, present building is ugly, but the shows are great
#8: Széchenyi Medicinal Baths and Swimming Pool - see my separate video on great baths in Budapest here: https://youtu.be/nj8aYn3EbZA
#9: Vajdahunyad castle - originally it was made of cardboard and wood, but it became so popular that it was rebuilt from stone and brick
#10: Museum of Hungarian Agriculture - the biggest agriculture museum in Europe
#11: Statue of the chronicler Anonymus - displayed in the castle court
#12: Boat rental during summer / ice skating in winter: various types of boats for rent during summer and a huge articial ice skating ring during winter time
--------
I am a proud local Hungarian living in Budapest.
I was born and have lived in this beautiful city, Budapest for decades. I am in love with it - and not because I haven’t seen anything else. I am a seasoned traveller and I have also spent many years living abroad. However, my heart (and wife, and jobs and goulash soup and lángos) have pulled me back to my birth town. I love this city and know it inside out.
If you are fed up with the formal (and often wrong) recommendations of guide books, then follow my channel to find advice from a real local. I give you practical tips, show you cool spots and help you avoid tourist traps.
I live and love Budapest, I want to share my tips with you.
