IZAMAL | the Golden City of Yucatan + Pueblo Magico

Izamal is known as the Golden City because it is completely painted yellow after the Maya sun god, who Maya people used to go on pilgrimages to see. It is just an hour from our home base of Merida, Yucatan and a quaint, beautiful and magical place to visit for a day trip! To see two cultures basically built one on top of the other is super interesting, not to mention the kindness of the Yucetecans who live and work here. We had a great time wandering around the city and getting a little lost amongst the huge yellow convent, the Maya ruins, and the tiny cobblestoned streets. Come along on the journey with us and see what this place is all about!
