Russia-Ukraine conflict: French journalist killed in Luhansk as defence of eastern front continues

French journalist Frederic Leclerc-Imhoff was killed in the Luhansk region of Eastern Ukraine on Monday after an armoured transport was hit by shrapnel from a Russian shell, according to French President Emmanuel Macron.

In a tweet on Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his condolences to Leclerc-Imhoff’s family and close friends. Marc-Olivier Fogiel, general manager of the French channel BFMTV, which employed Leclerc-Imhoff, said that “our newsroom is mourning tonight.”

Approximately 170km away on the frontlines of the Donetsk region, Ukrainian servicemen patrolled trenches on Sunday, as they continued to fight off Russian attempts to capture more land. Dmytro, a Ukrainian serviceman, and a former English teacher said his biggest fear was being told to ''stop fighting.“

Russia has concentrated its offensive firepower on the last areas still held by Ukrainian forces in the eastern part of Ukraine, in a push to achieve one of President Vladimir Putin's stated objectives after three months of the war.
