Resolving the Global Refugee Crisis: Khalid Koser
Event details: https://bit.ly/2VsZoHg
There is no refugee crisis in the global North, but there is one emerging in the global South, as more refugees find themselves encamped for more protracted periods and without any solution in sight. In this lecture I will consider some of the more innovative proposals for resolving the global refugee crisis, from private sector engagement to turn camps into economic opportunities, through new approaches to durable solutions for refugees, to mobilizing the political will to address the underlying causes for refugee flows, including climate change. Prof. Dr. Koser will present ideas to solve the global refugee crisis and will give inspirations to start thinking yourself.
This lecture of the Maastricht Migration Lecture Series. The European Law Student Association, Refugee Project Maastricht, the Maastricht Young Academy (MYA), the Maastricht Center for Citizenship, Migration and Development (MACIMIDE) and UNU-MERIT aim to provide an objective picture on the topic of migration and offer new insights. To do so, different aspects around migration are analyzed and different perspectives are given on how states might deal with the influx of refugees in the future. In a number of lectures, experts will talk about topics such as myths and misconceptions in the area of migration, dealing with high displacement, gender and migration, citizenship, EU Asylum Law and more.
