Pierre Defourny, Master of Science in Public Policy and Human Development, cohort 2012-2013
Pierre Defourny works as an Economic and Trade Policy Adviser at the Delegation of the European Union in Australia.
Video transcript:
My year in Maastricht was definitely the most eye opening one and intellectually stimulating one. I met there people from all continents including Australia, where I live now, as you can see with these kangaroos. And these people were awesome and many of them remain my really good friends today. I currently work at the delegation of the European Union in Canberra. I'm employed here as a trade adviser at this really important time in the bilateral relations between the EU and Australia, as we currently negotiate a free trade agreement. In order to analyse and report on domestic policy development in Australia that affect our FTA, I make use on a daily basis of theoretical concepts and tools that I learned during my year at the Maastricht Graduate School of governance.
The MPP master at the United Nations University is a very intensive one-year programme. As such, my advice for current and future students would be on the one hand to focus hard on your academic tasks, but on the other to not neglect having a good time with your fellow students. The people you will meet with their many different backgrounds and nationalities are the greatest strengths and asset of the programme. I would highly encourage any prospective students in getting in touch with me if they want to find out more about the MPP.
