00:00 Hello my friends.
00:05 In this modelling project I am building the modelling kit of the US M48A3 Patton tank, in scale 1:35 from Tamiya.
00:13 There are numerous variations and modifications of the M48 in existence all over the world today, and this kit depicts an M48A3 "Patton" as it appeared during the Vietnam conflict when employed by the U.S. Forces. Using a cast elliptical hull which has high structural rigidity and excellent ballistic protection, this 47.5 ton tank has proven its worth in the field of combat against like opposition. The major improvement of the M48 over the M47 was the superior shape of the "Turtleback" cast steel turret, which provided a greater internal volume and much better ballistic protection. Armed with a 90 mm M41 gun and on 7.62 coaxial machine gun and a 12.7 mm machine gun in the commanders cupola, and powered by a Continental V-12 AV-1790 petrol engine of 865 hp, this fine tank has a top road speed of 48 km/h. It is crewed by a Commander, Gunner, Radio operator/loader and a driver. The M48 series of medium tanks is or has been used by a great number of nations around the world, and is expected to remain a first line battle tank for many years to come.
00:53 The box includes the manuals (some other papers too), parts (sprue), photo-etched and miniature decals. Everything seems beautiful and of high quality with many details.
01:37 Cutting the wheels first and then will sandpaper to smooth them out.
02:08 Smoothing out the parts with the cutter and sandpaper. When needed, using the cutter carefully in the opposite direction to avoid cutting or damaging the parts.
02:44 The wheels and poly caps are ready. Assembling and gluing the wheels like so.
03:05 Repeating the process for the drive sprockets.
04:13 Same process for these small parts for the lower body.
04:54 All the suspensions are smooth, clean & assembled. Gluing time!
05:54 Already glued these hooks here & prepared for gluing these parts here.
06:20 Same thing with these parts too.
06:51 Cutting the wheels and these small axles and then will sandpaper to smooth them out.
07:09 The parts are ready. Assembling & gluing like so.
07:28 The wheels are ready. These parts of the suspension are also ready but I have to say that they were difficult to clean & smooth out properly because they had many model lines.
07:39 Gluing.
08:14 I have glued and prepared few things such as the bases of the drive sprockets.
08:27 Gluing the lights and hook.
08:56 Rear engine air/heat grills.
09:18 The fender parts for the upper body are done. Gluing.
10:22 Headlights, toolboxes, hooks and air cleaners... Assemble! 😁
10:51 Those things are done. Placing this hatch and air cleaners.
11:25 The gun barrel parts are almost ready but are a bit crooked. I will try to straighten and glue them.
12:00 Will use some plastic putty to fix the lines and gaps.
12:19 After awhile, using a wet brush to spread the putty carefully.
12:44 Smoothed things out.
12:50 Assembling the gun barrel and infrared projector parts.
13:26 These parts will glue later on.
13:29 Turret parts are ready (drilled the necessary holes too) to be assembled such as lights, Jerry Can, hatches, etc.
13:35 Assembling.
14:29 There are some gaps that I will have to fill with some plastic putty.
14:44 After awhile, using a wet brush to spread the putty carefully.
15:05 Smoothed things out and will keep attaching the rest of the stuff.
15:46 Gluing the upper and lower cupola parts for the machine gun (MG).
16:41 This hatch I will decide later on how to attach it because I may leave it open or something.
16:48 I have prepared few other things for the turret including couple MGs. With a syringe needle, drilling tiny holes to the 2 MGs for a more realistic look.
17:24 Attaching (including the wire rope).
18:06 Mounting the Gun barrel and the 12.7 mm MG.
18:31 Glued the upper body off-camera because for some reason it was difficult to connect the back side.
18:38 Gluing the rear fenders and the snorkel.
19:04 Placed some plastic putty on the fenders and snorkel because they had some gaps.
19:10 Attaching.
19:39 Snorkel helps the tank to fork water obstacles up to 4.1 m in depth.
19:50 Gray primer.
