Today we will have quick evening walk in Montpellier from Carré Sainte Anne towards the Promenade du Peyrou.

Montpellier, a dynamic city full of ancient heritage and contemporary treasure. The city is located in southern France near the Mediterranean Sea. It is one of the largest urban centres in the region of Occitanie. it is a cultural and sporting hotspot, rich in festival and always populated by students.

Carré Sainte-Anne: The Carré Sainte-Anne was first a church built in the nineteenth century during the economic boom of Montpellier in parallel with the development of the wine trade. Its majestic bell tower is visible from the entire city of Montpellier. The Carré Sainte-Anne is now converted into a cultural space and a contemporary art centre. It hosts exhibitions and festivals all year round. The management has always sought to privilege local contemporary artists (painters, photographers, visual artists etc ...) by offering them a cultural space dedicated to all the arts. Its redesigned nave offers a space of 600 m2.

Arc de Triomphe: Designed by the architect François D'Orbay, a pupil of Mansart, the Arc de Triomphe de Montpellier was built in 1692 in place of one of the gates of the old rampart. It is a must to enter Montpellier from the Parc du Peyrou. Discover the medallions, bas-reliefs and attic (the top) dyed in ochre and yellow, as well as a royal coat of arms that has regained its blue color of
France... And exclusively, go on a guided tour with the Tourist Office and treat yourself to the ascent of the Arc de Triomphe (some 90 steps to climb...): you will discover a view of the most striking of Montpellier and its surroundings.

Promenade du Peyrou: On the outskirts of the Ecusson of Montpellier (the name given to the historic center because of its shape), the Promenade du Peyrou, laid out to contain the statue of Louis XIV on horseback, is one of the favourite places of the people of Montpellier. The arc de triomphe and thechâteau d'eau (water tower), extend into the aqueduct and are models of classical. The Peyrou esplanade gives a panoramic view of the city, of the ancient arches of a Roman aqueduct, Les Arceaux and of the surrounding area. It was completed in 1774, the date of Louis XVI's accession to the throne, by Jean Giral, the architect.
