A man and woman are pulled from a van after a short police chase in Ocala on Thursday. The van rolled over after a sheriff’s deputy used a PIT maneuver to stop it. The driver, wanted sex offender Todd Marchesano, had minor injuries. A woman suspected of selling dozens of bronze vases removed from a cemetery late last month was arrested on Thursday. Tina Marie Nabbefeld, 40, was a passenger in a gray Toyota van that a sheriff’s deputy forcibly stopped by using the precision immobilization technique — or PIT maneuver — in the 2200th block of Northeast Jacksonville Road, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. The driver, Todd RichardMarchesano, had minor injuries, according to MCSO. Deputies had been searching for Marchesano, who is suspected of violating his sex offender requirements, according to an arrest report. Ocala Police Department detectives had been looking for Nabbefeld in connection with the theft of 45-50 bronze vases worth $200 each from headstones at Faith Memorial Cemetery, 3035 NW Old Blitchton Road.
The thefts were reported on Aug. 31, and on Sept. 1 detectives tracked them down to a recycling plant on Northwest Gainesville Road. They were told that a woman, later identified as Nabbefeld, was at the facility with vases twice. Officials found the vases at the recycling facility. An OPD detective went to the crash location to interview Nabbefeld, who admitted selling the vases but denied knowing they were stolen, according to an arrest report. On Friday in an interview with a Star-Banner reporter, she said she received $50 for the vases. Though Nabbefeld said she did not know that the vases had been stolen, she said she “won’t be doing that again.” “It’s not worth the $50, and I’ve learned my lesson,” she said. Deputies had learned that Marchesano, 48, might be driving a vehicle in Ocala. On Thursday, a deputy saw the van at the intersection of U.S. 27 and North Pine Avenue and tried stopping it, but the driver kept going.
Another deputy joined the pursuit and was able to stop the van, rolling it on its side. Marchesano and Nabbefeld were detained. The woman told deputies that Marchesano had said to her that he was not going back to prison. Deputies checked their records and found the warrant for Nabbefeld’s arrest. She faces felony charges including two counts of dealing in stolen property and two counts of falsification of ownership to a pawn broker. Marchesano faces multiple charges, including driving while license is suspended or revoked and resisting an officer. Deputies said Marchesano was convicted in a U.S. military court while serving in Germany for committing indecent acts with a child in May 2006 and is required to register as a sex offender in Florida. Deputies said Marchesano has not been in compliance with his registration.
